The Paris Exposition 1878 register of American Manufactures by W M F Murphys and Sons Philadelphia 1820 to 1920. This register has several thousand signatures from people from all over the world, many of them are famous last names. The book was used for something else at one time because there are some later signatures from the 1936 period at the end. This exposition was on a far larger scale than any previously held anywhere in the world. It covered over 66 acres. Among the many inventions on display was Alexander Graham Bell's telephone. Electric lighting had been installed all along the Avenue de l'Opera and the Place de l'Opera, and in June, a switch was thrown and the area was lit by electric light bulbs, invented by Thomas Edison, who also had on display a megaphone and phonograph. International juries judged the various exhibits, awarding medals of gold, silver and bronze. The United States exhibition was headed by a series of commissioners, which included Pierce M. B. Young, a former United States Congressman and major general in the Confederate States Army, as well as other generals, politicians, and celebrities. To read more about the 1878 exhibition in Paris go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exposition_Universelle_%281878%29 where we obtained this information. Condition. The binding back needs to be reset. All the pages are fine. There are some areas inside the book where ink was spilled. There is no other copies. This is the largest book we have ever had. It measures two feet high by two feet wide and 10 inches deep and weighs 120 pounds! It was signed by many of the worlds most rich and powerful of that time.
