This is a superb set of antique hand made chairs. Each chair in this set of eight George l style chairs has carved shell knees and top crest. Splat and seat rails are veneered with a beautiful burl or burr walnut. These chairs are very strong, heavy, comfortable, and in excellent condition. This is one of the best 19th century dining sets we have come across. The walnut is a delicious deep rich color, and the proportions are generous. The chairs each measure 42 inches to the top of their backs,18 and one half inches to the top of their seats,18 inches deep,18 inches across their backs and 20 inches across their front knees.

- - - - | Middletown CT Newfield School day book journal 1822 Item # 4983 Click HERE to inquire about this item 1876. It lists the votes, people present and the cost of operating the school. The clerks of the day have all signed this journal. 1836 voted to fix a site for a school house.Feb 27th 1862 "The weather and traveling was very unpleasant voted to adjourn to March 6th 1862 at 7 pm Attest. Chester Sage Clerk." At an adjourned school meeting held at the school house May 23 1862 Jeremiah Bacon in the chair voted to lay a tax of one mill and one third of a mill on the grand levy of 1861 to pay the expenses of repairing the school house. "Voted that the parents of guardians of the children who may injure the school house, seats,desks,break the glass, shall repair or refurnish the same at their own expense."

- - - - - - - - - - - - | Paris Exposition 1878 register American Manufactures by W M F Murphys and Sons Philadelphia PA Item # 5628 Click HERE to inquire about this item The Paris Exposition 1878 register of American Manufactures by W M F Murphys and Sons Philadelphia 1820 to 1920. This register has several thousand signatures from people from all over the world, many of them are famous last names. The book was used for something else at one time because there are some later signatures from the 1936 period at the end. This exposition was on a far larger scale than any previously held anywhere in the world. It covered over 66 acres. Among the many inventions on display was Alexander Graham Bell's telephone. Electric lighting had been installed all along the Avenue de l'Opera and the Place de l'Opera, and in June, a switch was thrown and the area was lit by electric light bulbs, invented by Thomas Edison, who also had on display a megaphone and phonograph. International juries judged the various exhibits, awarding medals of gold, silver and bronze.The United States exhibition was headed by a series of commissioners, which included Pierce M. B. Young, a former United States Congressman and major general in the Confederate States Army, as well as other generals, politicians, and celebrities. All the pages are fine. There are some areas inside the book where ink was spilled. There is no other copies. This is the largest book we have ever had. It measures two feet high by two feet wide and 10 inches deep and weighs 120 pounds! It was signed by many of the worlds most rich and powerful of that time.
